The Materials
Pine cones. The dominant element in D420 is a carefully selected pine cone — small enough to sit elegantly on a 9-inch rattan stick without overwhelming the bundle, but large enough to read clearly from across a room. Pine cones have a cultural resonance in autumn and winter that no other botanical can match: they are the botanical marker of the cold half of the year, the thing you pick up on a forest path in October, the ornament that everything else in a fall display is measured against.
Mixed wild botanicals. The secondary elements — seed pods, preserved botanicals, and natural materials — vary by batch in the specific mix but maintain a consistent dark, forest-floor quality. Rattan reed sticks. Standard diffuser-grade rattan, which functions as both a decorative stem and a fragrance-diffusing reed. The sticks in D420 are slightly thicker than our standard diffuser sticks, which suits the weight and presence of the pine cone head.
