Spring Awakening: The Story Behind Our Spring Fragrance Collection

Spring Awakening: The Story Behind Our Spring Fragrance Collection

Spring Awakening Fragrance Collection by Sunsum

Every seasonal collection at Sunsum® begins with a feeling, not a formula. Before we settle on fragrances, before we curate the color palette and the imagery, we ask: what is the felt quality of this season? What does it want from us?

Spring's answer has always been the same: open. Open the windows. Open the doors. Open the lungs that have been held just slightly tighter all winter. Open to possibility, to color, to the specific quality of light that only exists in March and April, when the sun is returning but has not yet become heat.

The Spring Awakening Fragrance Collection is an attempt to hold that feeling in a bottle.

The Aesthetic of Awakening

Visually, spring awakening is not the full bloom of May. It is the first green of March — tentative, precise, almost painful in its freshness. The first snowdrop. The first blade of grass that has somehow pushed through. The quality of just-washed glass. We chose fragrances that carry this quality: clean without being cold, bright without being loud, fresh without erasing the earthiness that winter left behind.

No. 2 Foundation — Neroli, Jasmine & Bergamot

No. 2 Foundation is the fragrance that opens the Spring Awakening collection. Neroli — distilled from bitter orange blossoms — is one of the most complex natural citrus florals in perfumery: simultaneously sweet, slightly medicinal, and deeply calming. It is the scent of a citrus grove in bloom, which is to say: it is the scent of spring in its most classic Mediterranean expression. Jasmine adds depth and warmth. Bergamot adds the tea-like brightness that makes this fragrance work in every context.

Clean House — Lemon, Chrysanthemum & Patchouli

Clean House Fragrance Oil by Sunsum

Clean House is the counterpoint: bright, citrus-forward, energetically assertive. Lemon cuts through winter residue with the chemical clarity that citric aldehydes provide. Chrysanthemum adds a faintly bitter, slightly anise-like floral note that reads as both fresh and sophisticated. Patchouli anchors the whole blend to something real — preventing the citrus from feeling thin or synthetic and giving the fragrance a staying power that makes it last through an entire day of spring cleaning.

The Spring Collection Philosophy

Every fragrance in the Spring Awakening Collection shares one characteristic: it moves air. Diffuse these scents and the room changes — not just in scent, but in quality of presence. Something loosens. This is the gift of spring fragrance, and it is the gift we intended when we built this collection.
