Wetlands Reed Diffuser Sticks: Cattails, Pampas & Craspedia in Your Home
Wetlands is the quietest bundle in the Sunsum® reed diffuser line. Not the smallest — it fills a vessel with height and presence — but the one that asks the least of its environment. In a room full of competing visual elements, Wetlands disappears in the best possible way: it becomes part of the room’s stillness rather than a statement on top of it.
This is a botanical bundle for people who know what they want.
The Three Materials
Cattails (Typha latifolia) are among the most architecturally distinctive plants in the temperate world. Their cylindrical brown seed heads — technically called a spike or spadix — are so graphically perfect they can look designed. The seed head is a densely packed structure of approximately 100,000–300,000 individual seeds compressed into a tight cylinder roughly 1–2 cm in diameter and 10–20 cm long. In dried form, they hold this shape indefinitely and don’t shatter the way many dried botanical materials do. In the Wetlands bundle, cattails provide the primary structural backbone — the tallest element, the most graphic, the one that organizes the rest.
Pampas grass (Cortaderia selloana) provides the feathery counterpoint. The silky seed plumes of pampas grass are soft where cattails are graphic, airy where they are solid. The interplay between the two materials — structural and soft, dark and light — is what makes the Wetlands bundle visually complete rather than one-note.
Craspedia (also called Billy Buttons or Drumstick flowers) adds a third element of perfect spherical yellow-gold flower heads on long straight stems. The sphere-on-a-line form creates a different visual texture from both the elongated cattail and the feathery pampas — a dot element among lines and clouds.
How to Style It
Wetlands is most at home in a clear glass vessel that allows the full stem length to be visible. Choose a vessel that is tall and narrow rather than wide and short — the bundle’s architecture reads best with height. A single bundle in a tall glass cylinder, placed in a bathroom window or on a bedroom shelf, is complete without any additional decoration around it.
Pair with a water-adjacent fragrance oil: Earthy Goods (lavender, oak moss, sage) for a marshland feeling, or Clean House for a crisp, airy effect.
